Hank Gutstop

His real name is 'Franklin J. Gutstop.'  Vic's lodge brother that Sade does not like. He is a 'Little Dipper' (elected in 1935 on the same day Vic was elected Exalted Big Dipper.)  Has a fine singing voice.  Sings for the lodge sometimes.  Is known to sing: How Sorry I Am I Choked My Gray-Haired Mother and Indiana's Got Its Wabash, Pennsylvania's Mountain Tips, but I'd Give the Mississippi For A Kiss From Your Ruby LipsWas asked by Vic to come help fix the Gook's washing machine he but broke the pipes - even though it was an electrical problem.   Was a doorman at the Butler House Hotel and Vic saw him wearing his Little Dipper robe; Vic became quite upset for breaking the lodge rules.  As late as 1936 he had a house and had a place to play indoor horseshoesSade saw him in Yamilton's while she was Christmas shopping; he was there just to get warmHad a scheme to play 'Santy Claus' and tag and deliver presents at 50 cents a package.  Will sometimes sells Christmas cardsOnce sang, "My Soul is a Little Grey Mouse Playing Peek-a-boo With You" that made everyone cry.  He is often seen sleeping on the railroad platform or on the courthouse lawn. If/when he gets a job he will almost always lose the job before the episode ends. Hangs around the Lazy Hours Pool hall until closing time.  Is known to play bottle pool.  He was thrown out of the lodge in April of 1940 but reinstated in May 1940. Borrowed $20 from Vic in which he was willing to repay by working for Vic and Sade in 30 minute intervals. Got a job at the Royal Throne 25 Cent Barbershop and was going to live there, but he got fired in same episode. Tried to implement 'free barber shop lunch' and 'every 50th haircut free' ideasGot a job singing tenor at the Ellseworth Church for $5 a service.  Asked Vic if he could borrow $200 for clothes and other things.  Lost that job, same episode.  Doesn't wear socksIn 1941, was voted the Best-looking Man in the lodgeAlways borrowing small sums of money from Vic.  Fond of cigars, is healthy and enjoys humorous anectdotes. Got hired as a "hostess" and fired the same day at the Little Tiny Petite Pheasant Feather Tea ShoppySpotter of the first robin of the spring for several yearsWas to be the flag holder when Mis' Nagle tore up Lee Street. Was to be hired to sing two songs at the Brainfeeble housewarming party: Would That These Pale Hands Crysanthemums Might Gather and Throw Me Over the Grape Arbor a Single Red, Red Rose My Love.  He would be accompanied on the cornet by Alf MushertonHired as detective for the Butler House HotelWas living at the Bright Kentucky Hotel but then moved into the bridal suite of the Butler House Hotel.  Threw William S. McFelters out of the Butler House just to have something to write down on his daily worksheet. Asked Uncle Fletcher to watch his pets (parakeet, fish and a cat) while he went on vacation. While on vacation in Sick River Junction, Missouri, sent Vic a check for $8 to help cover some of the debt he owes. Shared his Bridal Suite room with Mr. Feedburn while he awaited to get marriedSade called him "no good", "shiftless", and "biggest loafer in town", despite the fact that he was trying to get a job in Chenoa.

Shoeshine man who works at the Butler House Hotel barbershop. Was to wear a white coat and walk around with a tray of salted peanuts at the Brainfeeble housewarming party.

Vic's friend. Inventor of stingyberry jam.  He wrote a song for Vic called, The Victor R. Gook Fontonelle. He wants the song to be published in the Sacred Stars of the Milky Way official songbook. Vic invited him over to the house for supper. He replaced Alf Musherton as the 3rd chair in the Sewage Disposal Workers Semi-Classical Silver Cornet Band. He is also an accomplished musician, artist and a talented composer. He lives at the Bright Kentucky Hotel. Is smitten with Pom Pom Cordova. Vic and Sade are planning a party so the two can meetAsks Sade to be his agent and sell stingberry jam to the Thimble Club ladies but she refusesHe asks Uncle Fletcher to be a door-to-door agent and salesman for stingyberry jam but Sade talks him out of itUncle Fletcher calls him "brainy brainy." Invited to Hank Gutstop's dinner party. Works as a barber at the Butler House Hotel.  Has a younger brother (D.D. Baugh) who is a dentist; they tried to talk Drowsy Venus chapter lodge brothers into tooth-removal for $5 each.  Owns the concession at the Lazy Hours Pool Hall that sells cole slaw.  Promoter, operator and always on the lookout for an easy dollarMentioned by Uncle Fletcher as a person who is known to sleep on the courthouse lawn during the warmer weather.  Used piano wire for suspenders.  Born in Sweet Esther, Wisconsin.
