Rush Gook

Bill Idelson

Son of Mary Meadows (a good friend of Sade's), Rush's real name is Victor Rush Meadows.  He was named after Vic.  He was adopted by Vic and Sade. His first friend in town was Squirt; one time the two played "Mailman."  He is known by a host of nicknames but is almost always called, "Willie" by Sade.  (Sarah Cole points out this probably because Rush is played by "William" Bill Idelson.)  In July 1932, he is 9 years old. He created an invention that made shoes act like an electric iceboxHe created an invention to prevent people from walking in their sleep. Was kissed by Mis' Wilcox. Wanted to give his teacher a "fruit party" and decided old fruit would be served because it was cheaper. Got a job at Consolidated Kitcheware Plant #14. In December 1939 he is 14 years old.  His number one enemy is Bulldog Drummond, who he threw slurs at. He is also  enemies with Nicer Scott.  Is a big fan of the 3rd Lieutenant Clinton Stanley books.  Enjoys going to Tapman's vacant lot (usually to play baseball - he's a fine third baseman.)  And he mentioned that one time he pitched 14 innings, so sometimes he's a pitcher too.  But you know what... he also has a first baseman's mitt, so he also obviously plays first base.  And... yes, a catcher's mitt - so maybe he dons the tools of ignorance as well. Enjoys going to the Bijou Theatre to see Four-Fisted Frank Fuddleman and Gloria Golden films. Sometimes goes to the YMCA to play on the gymnastic equipment or to watch fat men play handball or perhaps the handmen play fatball. Played the violin for a timeHad a barber shop in his his cellar.  Believes he is good-looking and has said so on a few occasions.  At times, will go over to LeRoy Snow's basement and they will crack nutsHad an odd dog, 'Mr. Albert R. Johnson.'   Built a doghouse for the dogSometimes goes over to shoot baskets in Blue Tooth Johnson's backyardOnce threw Smelly Clark's shoes on top of the Call roof across the street.  Referred to as "Eliza" in an letter to Vic from H.K. FleeberIs more partial to string beans than to kidney beans.  As of 1941, had traveled to Chicago more than 12 times. Once had more than $7. Has never been west of Peoria, Illinois.  Likes pie. With Blue Tooth Johnson, Vernon Peggles and former-enemy Nicer Scott, formed the Virginia Avenue Area Sons of Patriotism Salvage IndemnityReferred to as "Ruth" in a telephone call from the Hink twins and their family. Rush weighs 118 pounds when stripped and has blue or hazel eyesLong hiatus from show ended when he returned 44-11-20Was kicked out of the Bijou theater by Milton Ferberman.  Rush threatened to sue the Bijou only to have Mr. Ferberman call him up and invite him to be an usher at the theater at accelerated payBroke the cellar window of his house.
