Mr. Overholt

Has been a roomer of Mis' Harris' rooming house for 15 years (in 1944.) Cries a lot. Likes to take his easy chair and carry it outside his window to sit (in his bathrobe) on Mis' Harris' roof, overlooking University Avenue. He complains about Mis' Harris' food. Mis' Harris wants to get rid of him but she has a heart of butter. He was the one to find Mr. Gumpox's missing dentures.

She used to live in Mis' Harris' rooming house according to Sade, although no mention is made of her parents. She might be an orphan. She is probably younger than Russell and he knows her well. They went to the same elementary school, apparently: the Urban School. She has Mis' Cutler as a teacher, who is Russell's former teacher.

Janitor for the Bright Kentucky Hotel. Was invited to Hank Gutstop's dinner party. Also works as the handyman at the hotel. Used to live in Philadelphia. Is somehow involved in the Hyena Grease business with Uncle Fletcher (in several episodes is trying to remove the odor from the grease.) Sade is under the impression that he and Vic are very good friends (they aren't.) Sade saw him shopping at Yamilton's when they had a big sale. Tried to sell a mother-of-pearl box containing a pink, plush album to Uncle Fletcher. According to Uncle Fletcher, he has imaginary brother. Mentioned by Uncle Fletcher as a person who is known to sleep on the courthouse lawn during the warmer weather. Was a roomer at Mis' Harris' house for a while. She was going to sue him for not paying his rent.

Is from Decatur, Illinois. Runs a rooming house across the alley from the Gooks on University Street. Sade saw her while Christmas shopping in Yamilton's. Sade made a flower garden arrangement for her. Offered to let the Gooks take care of her vegetable garden. She goes to Park End Church. Her telephone number is #7761-L. Sells Christmas cards. As of August 1939, she doesn't belong to the Thimble Club. Later joins the Thimble Club. Gave away buyer's choice of a lemonade stirrer or a map of Montana with each two dozen Christmas card purchased. Has a chicken coop in her back yard. Wanted to get rid of her roomer, Mr. Overholt and Sade promised to get Vic to evict him. Has "a heart as soft as butter," according to Sade. Is a widow. Has a married son named Harold who almost drowned in Rose Willow Creek. Raises cabbage and turns it into sauerkraut, which she sells. Wanted to raise pansies in the Gook yard and Sade refused, causing tension between the two.

In Series 2, she became a real character, played by Dolly Day.
Her father is Mr. Sprawl, an elderly gentleman who she watched out for and became upset at Uncle Fletcher for him prodding her father back to his house when he was actually trying to go to the grocery store. Her first name is Florence. She claims she was born in Decatur, Illinois. She does not trust Jimmy Custard as she would not let him in her house to do his calistoking. Engaged to be married to Dwight Twentysixler.

Boarder of Miss Harris. His first name is Harry. Sat on the floor by the hot-air register at Mis' Harris' house, putting sticks of peppermint candy in rows and making houses out them. Seems to enjoy baseball (the White Sox and perhaps the Philadelphia Athletics.) In the summer, he doesn't wear socks. He doesn't like shoelaces in his shoes. Is afraid of alleys and of sleeping in Mis' Harris' house alone. He cried when being accused of stealing a cookie at the Five and Ten. Sade says he's a "momma's boy" and misses his mother and sisters in Pontiac, Illinois. Once stayed at the Gook household overnight because he was frightened to stay alone when Mis' Harris went out of town. Rush says he's a good bowler and bowls at the YMCA... Got into a squabble over the price of licorice buttons candy at the Five and Ten. Used the Gook telephone to call his mother and sister. Rush drew a mustache on him with a pencil while he slept over on the Gook davenport while ailing from a toothache. Was seen washing his shoes and had a sunburn from spending the noon hour looking through the window at the Five and Ten Cent store at all the items.

A [probable] lawyer that lives at Mis' Harris' rooming house. Mis' Harris doesn't trust him with delivering soup; is afraid he will put it in his radiator! Has a car; was to go through Dixon and was to drop off Uncle Fletcher there. He got Mr. Cameron out of jail. Weighs about 200 pounds. Born in Sweet Esther, Wisconsin. Owned a broken-down motorcycle that he tried to give to Russell.
