Brother of Fred and brother-in-law to Ruthie Stembottom. Got a job at Yamilton's playing Santa Claus for 3 weeks and learned the art of talking baby talk. He wanted to borrow Vic's Exalted Big Dipper robe to look more like Santa but Vic totally nixed that idea. Had a job at the gas company but was fired. Got a steady job working for the city breaking up streets. His family, friends and girlfriend (Doreen Otto) came by his work and honked whenever he did something good with the shovel.

Has been a roomer of Mis' Harris' rooming house for 15 years (in 1944.) Cries a lot. Likes to take his easy chair and carry it outside his window to sit (in his bathrobe) on Mis' Harris' roof, overlooking University Avenue. He complains about Mis' Harris' food. Mis' Harris wants to get rid of him but she has a heart of butter. He was the one to find Mr. Gumpox's missing dentures.

She used to live in Mis' Harris' rooming house according to Sade, although no mention is made of her parents. She might be an orphan. She is probably younger than Russell and he knows her well. They went to the same elementary school, apparently: the Urban School. She has Mis' Cutler as a teacher, who is Russell's former teacher.

Lives on University Avenue. Sade's best friend (Sade knows her 'like a book'/like her 'big toe') and member of the Thimble Club, although once quit the Thimble Club over an argument with Mis' Appelrot. Her phone number is #2572 X. In 1932, had her hair cut into a bob. She's been cutting women's hair since 1922. Her father died in New York City so she cries every time she hears the city name. She was so proud of her brother-in-law Melvin getting a job tearing up streets that she and his friends went over in their cars to honk everytime he did something special with his shovel. Owed Sade copious amounts of money over the years - at one time a dollar and another time $9. She and her husband Fred often play "500" with the Gooks. As of April 1939, had never been introduced to Miss Harris. Takes advantage of washrag sales. She has small feet. As of July 1940 Vic says she is 37 years old. Sade thinks she secretly wears glasses. According to Sade, doesn't like Mis' Appelrot. Told Mis' Appelrot off in the underwear department of Yamilton's, then quit the Thimble Club. Usually doesn't "get" jokes. Usually lets little things bother her. As of episode 42-30-xx Miz' Appelrot's Petition, we know she's back in the Thimble Club. She once took fancy to Vic's Exalted Big Dipper lodge robe and wanted to pattern a dress out of the design but Vic squashed those plans. Has a green bungalow birdhouse in her backyard. At the big Yamilton's sale, she bought a "jug" of Moonlight on the Susquehanna River perfume for Fred's cousin. She is bashful around people but Sade says she is a comedienne around them. Sade says, "People stimulate Ruthie." Bought peanuts for Vic and Fred when they were to work on the Stembottom's car. Had a bad argument with Mr. Kroucher but later made up with him. Was kicked at a dangerous washrag sale.

Boarder of Miss Harris. His first name is Harry. Sat on the floor by the hot-air register at Mis' Harris' house, putting sticks of peppermint candy in rows and making houses out them. Seems to enjoy baseball (the White Sox and perhaps the Philadelphia Athletics.) In the summer, he doesn't wear socks. He doesn't like shoelaces in his shoes. Is afraid of alleys and of sleeping in Mis' Harris' house alone. He cried when being accused of stealing a cookie at the Five and Ten. Sade says he's a "momma's boy" and misses his mother and sisters in Pontiac, Illinois. Once stayed at the Gook household overnight because he was frightened to stay alone when Mis' Harris went out of town. Rush says he's a good bowler and bowls at the YMCA... Got into a squabble over the price of licorice buttons candy at the Five and Ten. Used the Gook telephone to call his mother and sister. Rush drew a mustache on him with a pencil while he slept over on the Gook davenport while ailing from a toothache. Was seen washing his shoes and had a sunburn from spending the noon hour looking through the window at the Five and Ten Cent store at all the items.

Fred (Ted) Stembottom

Lives on University Avenue. He and his wife Ruthie often play "500" with the Gooks. He made Vic mad by insulting him about his job at Consolidated Kitchenware. He is a huge fan of Dizzy Dean, the baseball pitcher and keeps a scrapbook about him. In the early days of the show, used to work as a clerk. He works at the foundry as a foreman. He tends to have flat tires on his automobile. Wanted to have the Gooks come over and play "500" and in the process have Vic help him change automobile tires. Usually takes his shoes off as soon as he walks in the Gook household. When he brings ice cream to the Gook house for the "500" games (which seems to be always), he makes sure that he eats whatever ice cream remains. Deviously attempts to try and trick Vic into getting him to destroy his concrete partition in the basement under the guise of "500." Uncle Fletcher refers to him as "Ted." Doesn't like butterscotch, maple, caramel or tutti-fruity icecream but likes chocolate and strawberry. Apparently, his car has 2 different horns. His wife claims he steals olives at the cafeteria by hiding them inside his mashed potatoes. Said he might be talked into joining the lodge. He is usually grumpy and on edge. Was wittling 144 gavels for Sade out of scrap wood given to him by Harry McWilliams. Tried to trick Vic into helping him lay a concrete floor in his garage. Sade is afraid Fred and Chuck Brainfeeble won't get along. Has a green bungalow birdhouse in his backyard. After trying not to call him "Ted", it seems the Gooks have given it up and call him "Ted" anyway. Sade accepted an invitation to the Stembottom house so that Vic could rotate Fred's tires, straighten his fenders and other things. His salary was $32 a week but it's unknown what year this was said (probably early in the series.) Made history when all four of his car tires went flat at once. Used "500" game to try and trick Vic over to his house in order for him to strip down his dead storage vehicle. Uncle Fletcher once referred to him as 'Red.' Referred to as "stubborn" and "bullheaded."
